Furnis-- the doll for every child

Due to the variety of races in our household and lives, I wanted to find my son a doll that would better represent a side of his race that is less prominent. We do not try to isolate ourselves, but when I look around. Most of our friends are white. Some are black, don’t get me wrong, but with a mixed race baby, it is hard to keep balance. It becomes especially difficult when looking for a doll, and to add to the complication, I wanted a male doll.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered Furnis Spielwelt dolls. Not only do they offer the traditional white female doll, but they offer different races and male dolls. The dolls are made of cloth, incredibly durable, and anatomically correct. Yes, my son’s male doll has a penis. Also, the clothing is relatively easy to take off and put on for my (almost) 2 year old son. Sometimes he requires help, but for the most part he can dress and undress the doll alone.

Furnis dolls are designed in  Austria, but made in Sri Lanka.  In the U.S., they are available from Oompa Toys for $28.99.

Have you found a doll you love for your child? Have you tried Bob (the Furnis doll pictured)?

Oliver’s Furnis doll just arrived today, he has Titus, and as soon as Titus was pulled from his bag, he got a BIG hug from Oliver.

Thanks for this review. I’ve been wanting to get a doll, similar to this for a while. And I hope to do so for Christmas. BUT – I can’t find it anywhere!!! Am I typing it in wrong? any ideas where it can be purchased in Germany? Thanks!!!

I know that Christina looked at it for purchase in Germany and found it to be more expensive than in the US. I’m sure she can help you to find it in Germany. :) Also, depending on your Deutsche sprache skills, you could try some of the online shops listed in our directory.

Hi Alice, sorry for the delay, got caught up in the election. The best price I found for the dolls in Germany was from Kinderdinge.de, where they are 29,95 Euro.
