Another baby carrier

I know I’ve men­tioned before how much I love my baby car­rier by Hope­diz, but for the past two weeks, I’ve upgraded, so to speak.  As my girl hit about 3.5 months, she wanted to see more while she was being car­ried, and her weight was increas­ing and putting a bit of strain on my back.  Up until then, the cloth car­rier was great.

I had heard about the Ergob­aby car­rier, and when I saw a cou­ple using it up in Muen­ster over the hol­i­days, I was sold.  It works like a camp­ing back pack in that the weight is mostly car­ried on the hips.  he clips also make it easy to adjust to your size.  The car­rier comes with an instruc­tional DVD, which is good for those of us who just refuse to read instruc­tion man­u­als.  Of course, my girl still cries when I put her in the car­rier as opposed to the calm happy babies used in the DVDs, but that’s another story. There are a cou­ple of pock­ets in the car­rier as well that allow you to store keys, wal­let, etc. I have a burp cloth in a pocket as well. The down side is the price. It runs about 100 Euros, which is on the pricey side of car­ri­ers. I think it is totally worth it because it car­ries the weight so well, and will allow me to carry her as she keeps growing.

While shopping!I wanted to post some­thing about it today because one if it’s best uses saved me today.  My hus­band and I were out shop­ping in town, and the baby started cry­ing loudly in the car­rier.  She was sig­nal­ing that she was hun­gry, but we were in a depart­ment store at the time.  My hus­band con­tin­ued pick­ing up a few gro­ceries while I looked for a place to sit and nurse.  Unfor­tu­nately, all of the seats I found were occu­pied.  I sud­denly remem­bered that one of the great fea­tures of the Ergo is that you can breast feed while car­ry­ing the baby!  I loos­ened the straps so she slid down to boob-level and ta-da!

When my hus­band tracked me down he said, “wow!  That is the most dis­creet breast feed­ing I’ve ever seen.”  I had him take a photo.  I con­tin­ued to shop while she nursed because, well, I could. Awesome.

That’s great! We also have used our mai tai to nurse as I was walking through DC, but they are similar carries to the Ergo. :)

I have Ergo envy. We had a Bjorn, which was OK for a while, but I know now that the Ergo lasts for much longer and would have been great for traveling. Very wise purchase.
