Great Nursing and Maternity Wrap Cardigan

I am a huge fan of Victoria’s Secrets Soft & Sexy Wrap.  It’s not marketed for maternity and nursing wear, but that’s what so special about it.  It’s a good wardrobe investment that you can wear for years to come.  I’m 17 weeks pregnant and it fits great and is cute, I expect I can continue wearing throughout spring and it’ll make a great nursing cover-up in the fall and winter.  Isabella Oliver Maternity carries a similar style in ivory and black that is on sale now for $122, and is not as versatile in the ways it can be tied because the sweater fabric is thicker.  The Victoria’s Secret version comes in 11 different colors (I’m wearing it in Coral Madness right now and love it!) and can be tied in many different ways.  Even better?  It’s on sale right now for $39 and Victoria’s Secret ships worldwide.  Take a look:

The above twist-front tie back style I think could work well during nursing.  Just put a nursing cami or tank top underneath and the part covering the breast can be lifted up to create a nursing opening while your tummy stays covered by the wrapped part.

What do you think of the Soft & Sexy Wrap?  Do you have any tips for non-maternity/nursing clothing that is versatile enough to work during pregnancy and/or nursing?

Would you really want to wear something that nice for nursing? I’m thinking of milk leakage and baby puke here!

Living in Germany, having your baby along for an entire day out shopping and dining is pretty typical. Europeans also dress up, so it’s easy to feel dumpy if you don’t wear nice outfits.

As far as wraps, I would go with this rather than the Isabella Oliver wrap that costs over 3 times as much. I would still use a burping cloth and breast pads along with it to minimize mess, just like I would any nursing outfit. But for a nice cover up, I think it’s great. If you don’t want/need to dress up when you’re out with your baby, of course, then there’s no need to have it. Save the money for other expenses.

By the way, the instructions say hand wash and dry flat, but I put it through the wash on gentle cycle and dried it in the machine on low and it was no problem. No pilling or shrinking at all.

Well then, if I was you I’d buy a few cause they’re really nice and as you said, you can wear them long afterwards too!

One’s enough for now, since I only go in to Regensburg a couple times a week, but if we end up moving to Munich, more probably would come in handy. I always feel pressure to dress up more when I’m there ;-)

Thanks so much for this. I just ordered the teal and the gray! I know what you mean about Germany. My friends in the US don’t dress up at all, but it’s fine to go to Target in your PJs there. I know moms here in Germany that don’t dress up too they just wear baggy t-shirts, but living in the center of Wiesbaden, people look so nice that I get depressed if I go out like that. I feel out of place. Some of the German moms in my child group don’t see the point since they’re only planning on bfing 4-6 months, but I’m on my third baby – he’s 4 weeks now – and the first two I breastfed 25 and 31 months respectively. I don’t want to wear baggy shirts for the next 2-4 years – we’re planning on one more after this one! Oh and that Issbella Oliver stuff is ridiculously overpriced. It’s unbelievable. Thanks for a great, affordable alternative to us moms who want to dress a little nicer.

I bought a number of the glamourmom nursing tanks (fantastic) and then bought normal sweater cardigans or wraps like you’ve found here (nice!) and found that combination was the best for style and ease of nursing. I think this type of duo is much more discreet also, then some of the crazy nursing capes or blankets or hoods or whatever that I’ve seen out there. Laura in Ludwigsburg

I really like these wraps because they just don’t look like maternity or nursing wear at all. You could wear them anytime nursing or not. I particularly like the first two, they would go well with so many different outfits. I am personally past the nursing stage for good but like to look out for nice things to show to younger friends.
